INNOVO® versus invasive probes
Today we want to talk about how INNOVO® differs from other products that claim to treat pelvic floor weakness. These can be known as pelvic floor toners, pelvic floor exercisers, or pelvic floor muscle stimulators.
However they are known, they all have one uncomfortable thing in common – they deliver electrical stimulation to the pelvic floor using a probe inserted into the vagina.
It’s important to understand why INNOVO® is superior to these products.
INNOVO® is safe
To date, over 500,000 Innovotherapy sessions have been carried out by women and men across Europe, with no adverse events reported. INNOVO® is completely non-invasive – there’s no probe. Instead, the hand held INNOVO® controller is attached to a two-part garment, and targeted impulses delivered via a set of gel pads (attached to your upper thigh and buttocks) to safely and effectively activate all the muscles of the pelvic floor.
In contrast, studies have shown a number of side-effects when delivering stimulation to treat pelvic floor weakness via a probe inserted into the vagina. One study found that more than half of subjects who used probe-based pelvic floor toners experienced some form of side effect.1 In another study nearly 1 in 5 subjects dropped out due to the side-effects associated with these devices.2 Side effects include pain, bleeding, vaginal infection, vaginal irritation and urinary tract infections (Sand et al, 1995).
With INNOVO®, you can be confident that you are effectively activating all the muscles of the pelvic floor, with minimal risk of side-effects.
INNOVO® is effective
To date, over 400 people have helped us to carry out direct clinical research on INNOVO®, confirming that INNOVO® offers significant and lasting improvements in reducing unwanted urinary leakage, and importantly improving Quality of Life measurements. Clinical research has demonstrated that “After 4 weeks of treatment, 93% found a significant improvement in the amount of involuntary urine leakage”.
We continue to develop the clinical information supporting INNOVO®, working with leading clinicians across North America and Europe to expand the evidence in support of this pioneering technology.
Many Probe-based devices do not have the same supporting clinical research. As well as identifying problems with side-effects, studies have shown probe-based stimulation to be even less effective as a treatment than pelvic floor exercises. (Bø et al 1999).3
INNOVO® is comfortable
INNOVO® has been designed to be used in the comfort of your own home, while standing, reclining or lying. Because the stimulation is delivered externally, INNOVO® delivers a strong, comfortable contraction of the pelvic floor muscles, without the discomfort of inserting a vaginal probe.
With INNOVO®, you set the intensity of the stimulation, giving you total control over the strength of the exercise. You can find out what INNOVO® feels like by watching insights from real people here. Best of all, you can use your INNOVO® session as ‘me time’ – take 30 minutes out of your day to read a good book, catch up on your favourite shows or check in with friends on social media.
Compare the gentle, non-invasive stimulation delivered by INNOVO® with the intrusive and uncomfortable nature of probe-based devices. Typically, lubrication must be applied to these probes to allow them to be placed directly into the vagina - while you lie on your back with your legs apart. Would you choose this if an effective alternative existed?
So in summary, INNOVO® is a safe, effective and comfortable alternative to devices that use a vaginally inserted probe. Make the switch to INNOVO® today and soon get back to being you again!
